1979 Airstream Sovereign: Dancing Queen

Check out this project on Apartment Therapy!

Patricia always loved Airstreams: their iconic look, their sleek and sexy feel, their durability over time. She had been looking for one for a few years before she found us, unable to find the perfect product or team to match her vision. When she found us and we responded to her inquiry while at Mardi Gras, decked out in full costume (we sent photos), she knew she had “found her tribe.”

For Patricia, being able to trust a maker’s artistry and expertise was paramount. She knew anyone could retrofit an Airstream shell, but could they make it feel magical?

“I need to start my day with dancing,” Patricia explained in one of our early design calls. The trailer needed to keep the main corridor clear so Patricia could blast music and dance her way into each day. She always wanted to keep the trailer light and airy, which helped us pick this particular model, featuring extra-large window banks and a window in the door.

“It was difficult to wait for the build to be completed,” Patricia laughs in hindsight, “But I knew I needed to trust in the process, and I can’t believe how it turned out.”

Our favorite feature in Patricia’s Airstream is the one-of-a-kind pressed flower door, created by our friend Jennifer Wunder (Golden Poppy Press) and our lead carpenter Jeffrey Ostercamp. The flowers were grown here on the farm, pressed by Jen, and arranged nearly a year later for a custom bathroom door.

This project was made possible by designer Mike Beganyi, lead carpenter Jeffrey Ostercamp, our upholsterer Ginger McCabe, and our genius pressed-flower artist, Jennifer Wunder of Golden Poppy Press.
